John Lindsey Homers Twice in Suns Fourteen Inning GameJ

by @ 11:33 pm. Filed under Scott Elbert, Jacksonville Suns - April 2007, John Lindsey, Caros Alvarez, Marshall McDougall

John Lindsey had a huge game for Jacksonville in their 5-3 win over Huntsville.  He not only put the Suns on the board with a two run homer in the first, but he also drove in the go ahead run in the fourteenth on a solo homerun.  Marchall McDougall also homered to give the Suns a touch of insurance in the fourteenth.

Scott Elbert had a rough start but the pen really picked him up.  He gave up three runs on two hits and seven walks with six strikeouts in just three innings.  Carlos Alvarez picked up the win with two shutout innings of relief.

Scott Elbert Throws Five No Hit Innings in Suns Loss

by @ 11:58 pm. Filed under Scott Elbert, Jacksonville Suns - April 2007, Anthony Raglani

A five inning, no hit start for Scott Elbert went to waste as the pen gave up three runs and the Suns lost 3-1.  Elbert was pretty awesome with nine strikeouts and he walked just two.

The lone Suns run came in the third inning.  Anthony Raglani hit a solo homerun and no Suns hitter had more then one hit.

The Suns only picked up one run and that wasn’t until the ninth inning.  Cory Dunlap hit a solo homerun.

A Final Look at Spring Camp

by @ 9:10 am. Filed under Andy LaRoche, Scott Elbert, James Loney, Etanislao Abreu

Baseball America took one last look at the Dodgers spring camp with a “who’s hot” and “who’s not” format.  James Loney had a prominent place with his great spring and Tony Abreu gets some time.  Andy LaRoche and Scott Elbert showed up in the “who’s not” category.

Scott Elbert vs. Clayton Kershaw

by @ 3:14 am. Filed under Clayton Kershaw, Scott Elbert

Here’s a very interesting column at Baseball America where a scout compares two top notch Dodger pitching prospects.  Scott Elbert will be one of the guys to watch at Double A this year while Clayton Kershaw, arguably the Dodgers best pitching prospect, will probably start at Great Lakes.

Four Dodgers Make BA Top 100 List

by @ 10:41 am. Filed under Andy LaRoche, Clayton Kershaw, Scott Elbert, James Loney

Baseball America recently unveiled their Top 100 prospect list and four Dodgers made the cut.  Andy LaRoche topped the Dodgers and came in at number 19 and Clayton Kershaw wasn’t too far behind at number 24.  Scott Elbert was 31 and James Looney was at 44.  Four guys in the top fifty is definitely a good thing.

Dodgers Well Represented in Top 100 List

by @ 7:25 am. Filed under Andy LaRoche, Clayton Kershaw, Scott Elbert, James Loney

Kevin Goldstein recently unveiled his Top 100 prospect list and the Dodgers are pretty well represented with four prospects on the list.  Clayton Kershaw comes in at number 16 and Andy LaRoche is at 20 to give the Dodgers two in the top twenty.   Scott Elbert came in at 32 and James Looney just missed making the top 50 with a finish at number 54.

Dodgers Top Ten Prospects

by @ 12:21 pm. Filed under Dodgers Minor League News, Andy LaRoche, Clayton Kershaw, Scott Elbert, James Loney, Etanislao Abreu

Baseball America released their list of the top ten Dodgers prospects today.  No major surprises and despite all of the promotions last year, the Dodgers remained stocked with talent.

Andy LaRoche comes in at number one.  LaRoche had solid numbers at both Double A and Triple A and he could be the teams starting third baseman this year if he has a solid spring.  If there’s one Dodger prospect to keep an eye on, it’s LaRoche because he has a legitimate shot at becoming an everyday starter right now.

Number two is the Dodgers first pick in last years draft, Clayton Kershaw.  The lefthander slipped to the Dodgers when Andrew Miller slipped to the Tigers and he completely lit up rookie ball.  He won’t turn 19 until March and we’ll be keeping an eye on him as he should start at either Low A or High A in 2007.

Number three is another left handed pitcher.  Scott Elbert was the Dodgers first round pick in 2004 and he had outstanding seasons at both High A and Double A.  He’ll probably start at Triple A but if he shows us something this spring, he could make the pen for the Dodgers.  I’d like to see him get time as a regular starter though so I think some time in Triple A would do him some good.

James Looney comes in at number four and he’ll suffer because the Dodgers picked Nomar Garciappara back up.  Regardless though, he’s shown all he can in the minors so he’ll probably make the team as a reserve left handed bat.

Rounding out the top five is second baseman Etanislao Abreu, who is a decent spray hitter.  He put up decent numbers in 2006 at Double A and we’ll probably see him in Las Vegas in 2007.
