Inland Empire’s offense didn’t show up in their 8-1 loss to Lancaster. Michael Rivera doubled, drew a walk and he scored the only run of the game.
A pretty good start by Jesus Castillo went to waste. He gave up just one run on five hits with three strikeouts. Mario Alvarez was hammered in his two relief innings. He gave up seven runs on six hits and four walks.
After a rainout yesterday, the Loons and Fort Wayne played two with each team taking one. In the first game, Great Lakes was blown out 9-3 behind a rough outing by Joshua Wall. Preston Mattingly provided most of the Loons offense with a triple and he drove in all three runs. Mattingly’s off to a rough start so far (one for thirteen) and this was his first hit in the Loons first four games.
Game two went a bit better as the Loons won it 5-2. Clayton Kershaw got it done on the mound and he picked up the win. He threw five shutout innings and gave up just one hit with seven strikeouts in five innings. Francisco Lizarraga and Michael Rivera each drove in two runs in the win.
