An error in the second inning led to three unearned runs in Inland Empire’s 5-2 loss to the Quakes. Mario Alvarez took the loss and he dropped to 4-6 in his start. He gave up four runs (just one earned) on two hits and four walks with three strikeouts in three innings.
Jamie Hoffmann belted a solo homerun in the loss. Shane Justis went two for three with a run.
Mario Alvarez improved to 2-4 on the season with a nice start in Inland Empire’s 4-2 win over San Jose. He gave up two runs on just two hits and three walks with four strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings of work.
Russell Mitchell was the hitting star in the win. He went two for four with a double, a run and an RBI.
Inland Empire got plenty of offense in their 10-3 win over Modesto. Lucas May went three for five with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs. Travis Denker went two for four with a double, two RBIs and two runs.
Mario Alvarez improved to 1-3 on the season with the win. He gave up one run on two hits and one walk with four strikeouts in six innings.
Inland Empire’s offense didn’t show up in their 8-1 loss to Lancaster. Michael Rivera doubled, drew a walk and he scored the only run of the game.
A pretty good start by Jesus Castillo went to waste. He gave up just one run on five hits with three strikeouts. Mario Alvarez was hammered in his two relief innings. He gave up seven runs on six hits and four walks.
It’s hard to believe that the 51s actually had the lead in this one. They were up 6-4 before three different relievers gave up two runs each in the seventh, eighth and nine innings in the 10-6 loss. It’s not like they blew a great start by Joe Mays (fours runs on seven hits in six innings) or anything but the run support was there for the win.
Ken Huckaby had three hits and two RBIs. Mitch Jones doubled twice and drove in two runs. Matt Kemp went 0 for 3 as he made his Las Vegas debut after some time with the big league club. It’s a shame he got sent down because was hitting the ball well for the Dodgers but I guess they just don’t have enough room.
Inland Empire’s pitchers were given a five run cushion but they blew that lead as the 66ers lost 7-5. Matthew Gomez de Seguira took the brunt of the damage and he gave up four runs while Mario Alvarez gave up the final two runs and he took the loss.
Anthony Harper and Adam Godwin each drove in a run and scored in the big five run second inning. No hitter had more then one hit and all five runs were driven in by five different Las Vegas hitters.
